Its because Google banned their YouTube channel for not displaying ads.

They fought Google on it for years iirc. At some point they gave up and decided to run their own PeerTube instance. They recount the whole thing on their blog.

I would hope so. It’s an obvious PR move.

Incidentally, this is a Peertube instance and therefore part of the Fediverse
