Note that this only mirrors posts, not comments. That’s what OP was asking for, but I want to make it clear that it’s not just going to provide a user with proxied access to everything on those Reddit posts.

Some people here also really don’t like the practice of mirroring them, which I suspect is why OP’s post was downvoted as of this writing. I’m fine with the mirroring – though I don’t find that it’s resulted in a lot of discussion on those mirrored posts last I looked – but different strokes for different folks.

I don’t currently subscribe to any of the mirrored communities, but there are a couple subreddits that I occasionally still check for post content, without logging in. I suppose that if a Threadiverse instance were mirroring them, I wouldn’t do that, but I’m not all that concerned about total separation from Reddit to that degree.

Correct answer. In addition to lemmit.online there’s also zerobytes.monster

You can request subreddits in the requests community. And I believe those bots are open source. So you could as well take the software and start a third instance that does this.

It has been done several times and the concensus has always been that people hate it. Check out lemmit. They do exactly that and because of it most instances have defederated from them.

Lemmy doesn’t have the userbase of reddit. If you start just cloning posts from reddit then pretty soon everyones all feed only consists of dead bot made posts. Cloning shit from reddit just turns lemmy into a ghost town.

Wait…maybe I’m misunderstanding the assignment then. Doesn’t cloning the posts also clone the replies?

So like, a post gets posted on /r/Cleveland, and it gets 3 replies. Does the /c/ClevelandClone community not see the 3 replies, and then if 4 more people on /r/Cleveland reply, does the /c/ClevelandClone not add 4 more replies the next time it archives?

Yes but if you reply to a clone bot, it’s not like the clone bot is going to reply to you back. The fact that replies are cloned doesn’t change the fact that noone is actually there and you’re just talking to a wall. I use social media to interact with people. If I wanted to see redit posts and not interact with people then I would just browse reddit without an account.
