I think it is a reference joke to when YouTuber Linus from linus tech tips expressed remorse for having formerly used the “hard R” during a podcast, mistaking it for the word “retarded”. The video of it, including the panic and awkward clarification that ensued, went viral on tech circles as cringe inducing amusement and proof of Linus’s social ineptitude.
The way he figures out what he meant and thinks about the smartest way to ask for clarification cracked me up. He goes through like 4 emotions in 10 seconds
That’s not what saying a “hard R” means.

You’re probably right, but that’s sort of a niche reference that I wouldn’t expect everyone to grok.
For the uninitiated:

It just pisses me off that he just dances around it and takes so long to get that retarded is the word. Just say dude
I love the clip of that, watch Lukes eyes go as wide as dinner plates.
when Linus says he dropped his fair share Luke looks like he’s being punched by a ghost
“Well… there goes LTT…”
All the LMG employees watching their careers flashing before their eyes right in that moment
I caught the LTT joke but yeah it’s a niche reference to have in the post title.

I came here to say the same thing. I’m against ableism as much as the next guy but let’s be real about what the ‘hard R’ is.
