What should i write for my undergrad computer engineering dissertation? I want to write about something that will turn heads and gain recognition, not some basic bullcrap that will recieve 3 citations in my lifetime
Using AI to write enjoyable music. Hurdles, current events in this area, next steps
If you have to ask someone else, then you probably won’t finish, and if you do, it will suck. Read some recently published papers, see what looks interesting to you, then check out the “future research” section that many of them will have.
I had to google it, undergrad dissertation apparently means bachelor thesis. It’s a joke to give a bachelor thesis the same name as a real dissertation.
First off: nobody will cite a bachelor thesis in a well regarded publication. In fact, even real dissertations will rarely be cited. They are not considered peer-reviewed. If you can write a paper based on your thesis and get it accepted at a journal or conference, that’s where you get citations. Usually, that requires a major overhaul of the thesis, though. This definitely requires a support network in the form of a research group. Look into what your university is researching and contact the research groups that look interesting to you.

Undergrad. You’ve no degree and no work experience. Perhaps the most important thing you’re going to learn from this project is humility.
What if instead of trying to be cutting edge and shit you look backwards. Do something with mechanical computing. Maybe think up a way it could still be useful in the modern era. Like in high radiation environments where electronic computers break down too quickly for example. I wonder if you could design a mechanical computer that could operate indefinitely in an environment like chernobyl, and power itself via the ambient radiation in the area? That could be cool.
Disclaimer: i am not a computer engineer in the slightest, and didn’t even have a classical education so im not 100% sure what a dissertation is.
You should write on an unsettled question that interests you enough to keep your interest for a long time. If you don’t have a clue what this is, then I recommend you do some literature review. Research is not done in a vacuum. Once you know what conversations people are having, then you can see where your perspective can make a valuable contribution.
It all depends on the writing time. if you have about a year, it will be difficult to make something truly breakthrough.
For example, we can question the modified Harvard architecture of modern processors. But creating an alternative architecture based on a modern set of hardware may be a bit of a difficult choice for a thesis.
I think we need more detail. Are there restrictions about what you can write?
