More of what already works. Keep the masses busy with Disney, Fox, and fast food. Divide the population with wedge issues like abortion, LGBT, guns, etc. Give outsized presence to Trump‘s topics in corporate media. Consolidate media ownership further. Go hard on nationalist and imperialist rhetoric (MAGA). Wave the flag and cross. Blame immigrants. Blame foreigners. Stoke racial tensions. All the while make shitloads of money by manipulating the market and cutting regulation. Run elections but make sure democrats always lose. Depoliticize the population. Start a war. Spread so much crap information that people tune out. Privatize everything, empower billionaires.

Interesting idea for sure. I’m not sure it would work though. The concept has lots of cultural implications as well. In traditional monarchies the king is usually divinely ordained, chosen by god. A democracy doesn’t get its legitimacy from above, the people are the ultimate sovereign and legitimize the system. New Monarchy also needs some kind of higher philosophical justification.

The linked concept of New Monarchy doesn’t have a king. It contains asymmetric votes between classes, which is an interesting idea to keep a check on the aristocracy. I don’t think the system is fully viable as a concept, but it makes a good point at the beginning. If we get an elite ruling class anyway in every system, let’s make it more visible and directly accountable.

Privacy isn’t particularly good in the fediverse. Any federated instance can track you as much as they want without you ever knowing or consenting.

Disabling JavaScript entirely is another data point for fingerprinting. Only a tiny fraction of users do it.

Besides, without JavaScript most websites are not functional anymore. Those that are are likely not tracking you much in the first place.

What can work well is asking the community with surveys and then the mods make a judgement call.

Too much democracy creates a vulnerability to an influx of activists brigading for a cause unrelated to a community’s topic.

A loud minority can drive out a silent majority of users.

Contemporary example is Israel/Palestine. Some subreddits decided to become propaganda echo chambers, others made discussion of the topic against the rules.

More democratic structures mean more discussions, votes, etc. This means people with more time will take up all the space. It’s also susceptible to outrage campaigns and similar. This can lead to a community getting preoccupied with meta topics, distracting from the main topic.
