  • Yes, my edit was a bit hyperbolic. The point being that current AI/LLM companies have been, at best, encoding data that they do not have permission to use into their models.

It’s like baking a cake, you mix in flour, butter, eggs, and bake it. Once mixed and baked you can’t get the flour, butter and eggs back to their original form and the final product is completely different

It’s more like baking a cake with flour, butter, and eggs that you snagged from other people’s grocery baskets after they paid for them. Then, started selling the cakes made from said ingredients.

Ideally, none of that would matter because knowledge and data want to be free and everyone would benefit. However, we don’t live in such a world. Instead, the technology is being used almost exclusively to extract wealth from people and make the average human being’s life worse, both in the short-term by reducing their ability to support themselves and in the long-term by drastically increasing consumption of fossil fuels and potable water, putting more pressure on the biosphere.

  • It’s a type of swedish smokeless tobacco that has seen popularity elsewhere. It is something like chewing tobacco in a miniature teabag. Health risks are likely lower than other forms of tobacco, based on current (limited) evidence, both due to the lack of combustion and manufacturing process (pasteurized rather than curing and fermentation) but it’s still addictive because of the nicotine and shows an increase in cancer incidence.

Apparently, Swedish snus also has higher bioavailability of nicotine than American due to pH and moisture content.

Apparently, disgusting fuckers in the previous comment were spitting the little “teabags” out on the shelf above the urinals or in the urinals (I’ve seen the later).

  • Because, statistically, they are a larger group that could have helped but selfishly decided not to and inaction is a choice that only serves to help the oppressors. Anti-electoralists and other accelerationists have been helping the oppressors win for over half a century, to intentionally cause human suffering to try to ignite a hot class war in the hope of achieving their utopia.

That there is not a shred of historical evidence of accelerationism successfully resulting in societal improvement or that said utopia it would be built upon the blood of the oppressed never seems to matter. That seems rather worse, to me, than those who simply want to oppress - using the suffering of others who did not volunteer as a means to an end.

  • I’ve had trans reports in the past when I was a supervisor (TBF, the world was a lot different). Two things that I’d recommend:

    • Continue being a good lead and treating them with respect, using their preferred pronouns, etc. Intervene gently but firmly if there is inappropriate derogatory stuff going on in the workplace.

    • If possible, I’d get a 1:1 meeting with them and outright ask “Do you want to talk with me about how current events are impacting you and anything that I can do to ensure that you feel supported?”. If they say “no” or aren’t comfortable, ensure that they know that that’s ok and that the offer is there.

As a disclaimer, I am neurospicy so, there may be gentler ways to approach but I have found that clearly and directly communicating that genuine support is there, if they need it want it and giving them a way to ask is generally well-received.
