It is just your brain doing worst case scenario planning, the brain while idling loves to run through all of the most awful things that could happen in order to plan for them and give you an advantage should they occur, however outlandish and unlikely. It treats unpalatable opinions about the decisions you have made and your progress through life in the same vein. Turning them around to see how well they fit and if you could benefit from them in some way or to prepare you in case they arise via an external agent.
Came here to say that, I can not remember the exact details but I read somewhere there is an additional chemical complexity to emotional tears as opposed to practical flushing tears that thickens them such that they flow more slowly down the face and so are visible for longer.

No. I think the idea that every event that could have multiple outcomes, no matter how minor generates a dedicated full universe from each choice is silly. I do not think there are timelines in that sense, only time. I do think there probably is something in the idea that the observed linear nature of time from past to future is just an idiosyncrasy of our type of life. So it is possible to be informed by other times because they are only separate from a particular point of view.
