And with the genocide of disabled people.
Sonic should be especially interested in the Japanese internment camps in the US.
Technically, the Holocaust did not start with deportations. What the Nazis did first was make it hard for Jews to live in Germany by harassing and taxing them heavily to make them leave. It is only when Germany conquered much of Europe that they had to deal with so many Jews and other minorities in occupied countries. At first, they did plan to deport Jews to Madagascar, but it’s not feasible because of of geography and war. They also cooperated with Palestine Mandate to allow Jews to leave but only a trickle of Jews managed to reach the safety of Middle East; but was stopped eventually also due to the complications of geography and war. What the Nazis arrived at instead is to exterminate the Jews; hence the term " the final solution".
The really sad thing is that people drink the right wing kool-aid without even thinking about it. I hate to generalize, but I think it’s because people are genuinely selfish.
Actually no, the holocaust started with demonizing and harassing specific groups, curtailing free press, dismantling democratic institutions and banning books.
Come to think of it…
It’s hard to decide when to draw that line. But before the deportations, they also did mass incarceration, and confiscation of those people’s properties without due-process.
That said…
Another “fun” fact: the first Nazi book burning was a bunch of transgender research, patient notes, etc. from the Institute for Sexual Research in Berlin.
Another fun one: The first gas chambers were for neuro divers kids. But not for all, that’s why the categories high and low functional were introduced – by no other than Hans Asperger
Point of order: That fact is not fun
Excuse me, if there are any centrists in the room I’d like to openly judge you now.
There’s nothing more fun than travelling with someone you like, but if someone forces you to move somewhere you feel uncomfortable… That’s no good!
What ethnic group do you suppose Holocaust 2.0 is gonna target?
As many as possible, one after the other, like last time.
You do understand no single one was targeted in the Holocaust, right?
As a German, I was tempted to read up for a few minutes on that matter, because I knew that several groups were murdered in concentration camps, and I was confused by the discussion that ensued here.
Turns out: “Holocaust” is the name of the industrialized murder committed by the Reich to eradicate Jews specifically, so yes, specific group. I concede that that’s not how the word is often used in common language though. However, and that I didn’t know, there’s also a name for the murder of Sinti and Roma, and that’s Porajmos (translates to something like “the devouring”, https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porajmos).
Apart from that, the camps were used for a number of other groups that the Nazis wanted removed. For a depressing read, click https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Identification_of_inmates_in_Nazi_concentration_camps Categories for targeted people used by the Nazis included political inmates, criminals, asocials, Homosexuals, Jehovas Witnesses, Emigrants, Jews, 7th day Adventists, citizens of several nationalities, exponents of the Bible, Soviet prisoners of war, people with disabilities and more.

Seeing the US and several European countries slip into (proto-)fascism, with the AfD gaining significant ground on all levels of government and among the general population deeply worries me, as does the fact that political parties almost across the spectrum adopt racist ideologies…
Many English speakers just use Holocaust to refer to the entire mass industrialized extermination of people, despite it originally being a Jewish word; as that’s how it’s generally presented in media. Hence my comment to remind people the other ~7 million known victims weren’t Jewish. But all of this is good info for those that maybe aren’t up to date on the nearly century old genocide.
As to your last point, it just means we can’t let the fascists live this time. none slightly close to supporting them, anyone in a logistics role, anyone happily voting for them. They can’t be reducated, they can’t be returned to normal society, it’s us or them.
Well, I guess technically they are an ethnoreligious group. But the question remains.
As always, the first targeted will be the core supporters of the movement the coopted, then anyone that seems left wing, then the lgbtq, the probably Latine/native, then probably black Americans.
The Holocaust took many victims, while Jews lost the most, they weren’t the first victims nor the majority of victims.
Will not be shocked if Musk is assassinated as part of a consolidation of power. He positioned himself close enough to the iron throne to be seen as a threat or at least an obstacle.
Finally a post featuring Sonic the Hedgehog.
real talk. It seems like nobody that likes videogames (like I do) uses Lemmy. I have yet to see another post featuring another game character.
That’s odd. I see a lot of comments about Luigi.
Fun fact, we are living in the time in between hitler’s appointment as chancellor, and the passing of the enabling act
(Beer hall putsh is Jan 6)
Historical re-enactment is so realistic!
That fact isn’t fun at all…
Here, OP probably thought it was clear but I have one for you because it was not: /s
