If the project is open source, isn’t that giving back the tool to the community?
No, the key takeaway is that Picard_Maneuver, PugJesus, others and myself now try to post to !lotrmemes@lemmy.dbzer0.com rather than the midwest.social version due to some powertripping on the admin.
You can have a look at other comments for details.

Lemmy.world top of the day (https://lemmy.world/?dataType=Post&listingType=All&sort=TopDay)
Out of the top 20 posts of the day, 11 are political.
Do you really think that having a single community that would not have political content can be considered censorship, and would impact the amount of political content available on this platform?
I skimmed though the article you linked, and I would agree we should avoid faux-enlightenment if applied to the whole platform. Here, it is only about one single community, which will definitely be dwarfed by the rest of the political communities.
Hello @Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net , you might want to have a look at this post
Oh definitely. !asklemmy@lemmy.world banning US politics discussions is a good sign.
Hopefully over time people will hear about !AskUSA@discuss.online
Do as you wish, I don’t really care about this kind of communities that much 😄

How is this funny (which I assume is the initial goal of the community it was posted in)?
I am well aware of the issues you mention, but I’m suggesting to have a space where those topics are not the focus.
As stated in the sidebar, there are enough communities on Lemmy to discuss those issues
At least vegetarian and vegans can block it
Yes, but on the other hand microblogmemes is on LW…
I just had a look, third post is an Elon Musk tweet.
I feel like sometimes those communities aren’t really funny memes, it’s just screenshots of tweets to convey a message.
And that’s fine, but I guess !funny@sh.itjust.works can try to focus more on genuinely funny content.
If you want to suggest consolidation, feel free, but for reasons stated above I’m not that interested into microblogging communities anyway
I’m well aware politics are more prevalent than ever, but does that mean they have to be everywhere?
If a comet was about to hit earth, would you look at it non-stop or would you sleep from time to time to rest from the issue at hand?
And I’m not even touching about the fact that it’s US politics that are getting posted everywhere. A large size of the Lemmy population are not US citizens, getting flooded with politics from another country isn’t really something people are enthusiastic about.
First sentence in the sidebar of !politics@lemmy.world
Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!
Or am I missing something?
Someone else in this thread literally mentioned they didn’t know Istanbul had electricity, due to the lack of media coverage of Europe in the US.
To be fair, as a European I feel like we have the same regarding other continents (e.g. Africa)
Nice! Feel free to promote it to !yurop@lemm.ee as well
The Lemmy.ca community is reasonably active
@bpt11@sh.itjust.works , any reason not to use this one?
It’s basically what you said in your previous comment, personal custom feeds defined by users for themselves. Some could be made public, but the usual use case was private.
Multicommunities have been funded: https://join-lemmy.org/news/2024-09-11_-_New_NLnet_funding_for_Lemmy
!newcommunities@lemmy.world to discover active communities
At least you know it exists, so that’s a positive
