Can somebody share a better measurement than “18 blocks” for the rest of the world?

Considering we live in a conflicted world where capitalism has ruined everything, I’d say donate a few thousand of it around, but also save it and just make the right choices on what you buy:

• buy zero waste, local and bio
• buy fair and repairable phones
• buy fair and ecological clothing
• etc…

So many people don’t realize that every time they buy something in a store, they are casting a little capitalistic vote. We have to speak the language of what these evil sons of bitches speak, money. So I think for individuals, it mostly starts with us.

I wasn’t clear. I was referring to the ease of which you can verify that the hardware does what it is supposed to do. If you can verify it easily, but don’t, the ease has no meaning.

I don’t think you understand how electronics work. Maybe if you have an ugly plastic see trough toggle, but I don’t see that happening any time soon.

I also don’t understand why you are asking me questions because you’ve failed to explain something, as in some ploy to make me the bad guy here.

And no, I don’t use software toggles. I don’t use any toggles on my phone, except Bluetooth to save battery. 🤷‍♂️ You guessed wrong. Maybe don’t be so smug about trying to “read” someone. It ends up being super cringe when it’s wrong. 🫣

I am guessing you use a software toggle and are trying to defend your use of it. Which shouldn’t be directed towards me. You trust it? That’s great. I’m glad for you. I explicitly said I only trust hardware toggles and explained why I wouldn’t easily trust a software one. What I do is of no concern to you.

Weird question. A better question would be how hard it is to check. It’s pretty easy. It only requires a multimeter and basic knowledge of electronics. Opening a phone isn’t hard either. You can easily use a clothes iron with a rag in front of it.

Although chances of code being available are quite low for most mobile devices, not to mention software takes many many hours longer and you’ll have to make sure your build matches the code (which means manually checking the code of every update).

You mean a hardware toggle? Because those can be double checked with some electronic knowledge.

I moved from TransIP to Hetzner. TransIP started costing me more than €40 for 2vCPU + 4GB RAM + 1.25TB extra storage. While this same product only cost me €23 years ago. So I decided to move to Hetzner because I could get a 2vCPU + 8GB + 1TB extra storage for only €21. Plus it also allows Tor bridge nodes, which was a must for me. After doing benchmarks to see if the Hetzner server wasn’t shit, I came to the conclusion that it was almost 5 times faster. Awesome. I don’t have too much experience with them yet, but on first glance I’m very happy.

Regarding software, I run Docker containers with different software. But the main service I’m running is a self made PHP website/webapp. I also use Grav for a blog, but I’m not too happy with it because I think it’s convoluted.

It seems like this is just something that’ll probably happen a lot whenever something new is introduced on the roads.

First past the post is such a bad way of voting. They make you choose between 2 parties that don’t even reflect most of the people. Proportional representation is a much safer way to handle everything.
