  • It’s the instance run by the creators of Lemmy, people on .world love to constantly redbait about it and other left-wing instances because they tend to enforce rules against bigotry while also critically supporting a lot of US state enemies.

I don’t see people being censored around here for complaining about Russia being a capitalist misogynist transphobic shit hole (many such cases tbh), but homophobic insults against Putin? that’s not going to fly because it’s still homophobia, and doesn’t even amount to real criticism.

People mistake the fervant opposition to the US empire in these spaces as blind support of these state enemies, and that’s just missing a lot of nuance and boiling it down to “lemmy.ml funded by Russia/China”

That said I kinda wish I was getting getting paid by Russia/China, here I am working a day job like a chump to pay rent.

  • It means ‘fuck Joe biden’, there was some NASCAR thing where people were chanting ‘fuck Joe Biden’. It was being reported on and the reporter relayed it as ‘lets go brandon’ and it became a meme on the right.

The meme in this thread is about how American conservatives completely miss the nuance of why people on the left actually oppose both them and centrist Democrats. It’s easier to do childish shit and just assume that everyone to their left is some form of liberal who loves Joe Biden. The good news is they’re not getting younger.

  • Can you elaborate about unwritten rules? Most of the bans I’ve seen has been for pretty clear rules violations, there’s some stuff which might fly on reddit (like xenophobia, sexism, racism, transphobia), that will catch a ban here. Having rules against bigotry actually getting enforced is probably a confusing occurrence for some redditors. Even people behaving hostile will generally only catch a temp ban to cool down, permanent bans are more for people who are being bigoted.

I have had plenty of issues with at least one of the admins, despite that I have yet to be censored for saying as much. The red-baiting disguised as legitimate concerns rubs me the wrong way though.
