You know, i do actually very often concur with these kinds of content, like the ones saying billionaires are leaches on society and governments are often used as a weapon to protect the ruling classes.

But man… when i come to lemmy i kinda want to only see memes, and funny stuff… even communities that are not niches to political content get political way too often. Like gotdammit, when i get to c/comics i just want to see funny drawings, i’m way too tired to want to see your lame class war comic…

Is that a feeling i’m the only one feeling?

edit: i think what makes it worse is that very often they’re not even funny, just literal propaganda, “good guy propaganda”, maybe, but still propaganda

edit n2: edited title and body slightly to be “open ended” on mod’s request

I have little patience for memes, and even less so political memes. The right wing stuff is all woman hating fascists, and the left wing stuff are people who would send me to a camp or chase me out of the country for having a slight disagreement with them on my specific take on socialism.

There’s often no room for discussion or disagreement, because “its a joke”. So at that point it’s just political brainwashing, no matter which side it is on.

Of course, sometimes it’s fun, and sometimes it’s good. There’s a role for humour to play in highlighting injustice and systemic absurdity. I’m not completely against it. I just have little patience for for it.

Which is why I mostly use this platform to look at pictures of owls.

I don’t even know why they create other communities, does anyone even needs more than that?

    Reddit is about the same

A subreddit called “AdviceAnimals” is literally “Politics” but v2.

Pics is just random photo of a politician, instead of like… you know, landscape, cityscapes, planets, whatever, cool stuff. why is a picture of a politician in “Pics”?

It does get very predictable and repetitive. I feel like the conversation goes the same way under each political meme.

They usually don’t post anything else. Or comment about anything else. Just block a few to thin the herd

It is really interesting that the original post got removed. Guess people don’t complain about .ml without reason.

I don’t mind edgy leftist memes, I just get annoyed at how overconfident MLs in particular are about their broader grasp of political philosophy.

And so unwilling to share their thoughts or teach. It’s all “this is truth and you’re a terrible person for not already agreeing. Oh, Mao says you’re not allowed to ask questions for some reason.”

I love it when they try to give me reading assignments. I was there when the deep magic was written, freshman!

In 99% of the cases they haven’t even read beyond the Wikipedia summary anyway, in my experience.

You’re lucky if they get that far. I’ve had people argue over facts that were easily verifiable by multiple sources. I’m too old to do their research for them.

    Sometimes I want it, sometimes I don’t.

It’d be nice if I could collect channels into custom feeds, so I could have a separate feed for my political channels. And if those feeds could be shareable

I normally only look at communities I am subscribed to and am not subscribed to places where such things are usually posted. You could try that too.

In general I dislike communities with concepts like “pics”, “comics”, “memes”, etc., I don’t want to see just any pics or comics, I want to see ones I might find interesting. Lemmy is unfortunately not yet a big enough place that it has specialized communities for everything.

You are not alone. This place often feels like an astroturfed propaganda disbursement machine, even with a lot of filters and block lists.

The amount of hate I get every time when I call out political opinions posted as “memes” is incredible. Every time it’s either some mental gymnastics about how it actually counts as meme or alternatively ad-hominem accusations about my underlaying motives of only calling out left-wing political memes and never right-wing ones (I wonder why).

The truth is that my feed is almost exclusively politics despite me blocking every single political instance other than the ones for general news. I bet there’s even a community dedicated to political memes but no. Some people absolutely have to inject their political views everywhere.

You are not the only one. I am starting to unsubscribe from communities that I feel like it is simply too much of. I get that people want it, and that’s their choice, but it’s feeling a bit overwhelming lately. I thought it might decrease after the USA election but… nope.

I don’t think its your intention, but this kind of reads like “go be poor somewhere else”. The uptick in the messages you’re seeing are from people that are on the losing end of society, and that losing end is growing more and more all the time. So far I’m lucky (and it is just luck) to not be there, but I recognize that ignoring, or worse silencing, them is the wrong way to go.

Their messages have value because they aren’t being heard. If that keeps up, it will mean the shredding of our society and we all lose. So in short, I’m fine with the “class war” messages as they are here against the rich establishment.

I understand your view, but for a bit of context i’m poor too. I live in Brazil and my origin state the poorest in my country. The current region i live is also sometimes biased against people like me. My financial situation is also quite shit right now.

Maybe i’m trying to be an escapist, seeing my own problems on unfunny internet comics, but say “go be poor somewhere else” really wasn’t my intention with this post.

I have heard this sentiment before ie where people in stronger economic situations are more likely to birch endlesslly about class struggling while people beat down just need some escape.

You ain’t wrong we all got to cope.

The class struggle is just human condition. People have a right to cope as. They see fit.
